Hello and welcome to Genus Care
Welcome to Genus Care. We operate several children's homes across Wales, offering residential child care services for Looked after Children with an emphasis on Care & Support Plan achievement, longevity of placement and exceptional partnership working. We look after young people aged between 10 and 20 who present a myriad of challenging behaviours.
Reach Your Potential
Whilst offering 1:1 staffing ratios, full-time registered education, individualised therapeutic programmes ('It's My Life'), community inclusion and, above all, the opportunity for all young people to truly 'grow with us', we have a simple philosophy which is based entirely on the needs and best interests of the child: Once they come to live with us we will not fail them by ending their placement either unnecessarily or before the conclusion of their care and support plan.
This philosophy comes from a determination to put an end to the merry-go-round of placement after placement that many looked after children get stuck on. To grow one must first have roots and nobody puts down roots if they routinely move.
Broaden Your Horizons
We offer education via our registered Independent School, specialised therapeutic programmes tailored to the individuals needs, exceptionally high standards to every aspect of the lives of our young people and life experiences and opportunities which broaden the horizons and raise the esteem of all involved. We engage the services of experts whenever necessary - and do not charge any extra- to enable each young person to get the most and best help and support available.
As Genus Care is owned by the people who run the company on the inside, we make 'child focused, person centred' decisions- not financial or political ones.We aim to positively change the lives of all children living with us, to realise their full and often undiscovered potential whilst at the same time keeping them safe, educating them and sticking by them. We will go the extra yard (or mile) to achieve success – please read the other pages on this website to learn more about how and why we do this.
The Welsh Government named seven core aims for all children and young people. We believe they are very apt and so have woven them into all we do. They are that all children and young people:
> Have a flying start in life.
> Have a comprehensive range of education and learning opportunities.
> Enjoy the best possible health and are free from abuse, victimisation and exploitation.
> Have access to play, leisure, sporting and cultural activities.
> Are listened to, treated with respect, and have their race and cultural identity recognised.
> Have a safe home and a community which supports physical and emotional well-being
> Are not disadvantaged by poverty.
